ACTIVITIES IN WINTER
1. Skiing & Snowboarding

Over 295 kilometers of slopes in the Montafon ski areas.

Golm: Family-friendly with night toboggan run and the “Hexenbahn” (witch's lift).

Bielerhöhe: Perfect for cross-country skiing and ski touring with breathtaking panoramic views.

Freeride & fun parks: Action-packed zones and snow parks, e.g., in the “Nike Snowpark Montafon.”

Ski schools: Professional courses for all levels, e.g., ski school in Schruns on the Hochjoch, on the Golm, or in Gargellen.

2. Tobogganing

Golmerbahn: 3 km, with night tobogganing (illuminated) on selected days.

Garfrescha: 5.5 km, longest toboggan run in Vorarlberg, with night tobogganing.

Berggasthof Grabs: 3.5 km, family-friendly and ideal for beginners. (Alternatively, from Lindauer Hütte)

Toboggan rental: Directly at the tracks or at sports shops such as Sport Harry.

Tips: Bring sturdy shoes, gloves, helmets, and headlamps if necessary. Keep your distance and stay on the paths.
3. Cross-country skiing

Top cross-country trails:

Panoramaloipe Kristberg: 11 km with fantastic views.

Bielerhöhe: 22 km, challenging with magnificent glacier panoramas.

Talloipe Montafon: 25.5 km, varied through forests and along the Ill.

Equipment: Cross-country skis and accessories can be rented from Intersport Montafon or Sport Harry.

Tips: Start early, use high-altitude trails for snow-sure experiences, take a break in cafés along the trails.


4. Ski tours

Piz Buin: Challenging, approx. 4-6 hours to 3,312 m, the highest peak in Vorarlberg.

Tilisuna Hut: Moderate, approx. 3-4 hours, with refreshments available.

Madrisella Round Tour: Moderate, 3-5 hours, with fantastic panoramic views and a detour into Switzerland.

Lobspitze: Challenging, approx. 5 hours, secluded powder snow slopes.

Safety: Equipment including avalanche transceiver, shovel, and probe required. Always check avalanche conditions. Local knowledge recommended.

Tips: Book guided tours with the Montafon mountain guides.
5. Snowshoe hiking

Kristberg Panorama Route: 3 hours, moderate, with magnificent views and great restaurants. (My highlight: gluten-free Kaiserschmarrn at the Panoramagasthof Kristberg)

Equipment: Snowshoes and poles available from local rental companies.

Tips: Guided tours or night hikes for a special experience, especially in Gargellen (higher altitude).


6. Ice skating

Schruns-Tschagguns artificial ice rink: Spacious rink with music and lighting effects. Located in the Montafon Activity Park.

Vandans: Small, cozy rink, ideal for children.

Gaschurn: Family-friendly rink in the center of town.

-
Tips: Wear gloves for protection and warmth; ice rinks are less crowded in the afternoon.

Gauertal AlpkulTour: Themed hiking trail with art installations and views of the Three Towers. Regional delicacies at the Gauertalhütte (approx. 30 min. from Latschau) and Lindauer Hütte (approx. 5h from Latschau).

Hike to Lake Lünersee: One of the most beautiful mountain lakes in Austria, accessible from Brandnertal or via Rellstal and overnight stay at the Heinrich Hüter Hut.

Golmer Höhenweg: Panoramic trail with views of the Klostertal valley and the Rätikon. Numerous variations also suitable for younger children.

3. Climbing (Via Ferrata)

Latschau climbing garden: Various routes for beginners and advanced climbers.

Gauablickhöhle via ferrata: Challenging via ferrata with cave crossing.

Rifa climbing garden, Partenen: Beginner-friendly climbing garden in idyllic natural surroundings with a small suspension bridge.

Montafon Climbing Hall (Jufa climbing wall): Alternative in case of inclement weather, with routes for all levels. Also ideal for children.

5. Paragliding

Flight from Silvretta-Bielerhöhe: Enjoy the freedom of the air and spectacular views.

Tandem flights from Nova or Gargellen: A great way for beginners to experience the Montafon from a bird's eye view.

Practice flights on the practice slope in Schruns or Golm: Perfect for beginners. (Tandem-Kurt and Air Montafon)

7. Excursions with small children

Golmi's research trail on Golm: A themed trail with lots of play stations and information about nature, including a marble run and slide park.

Alpine Coaster Golm: Fast-paced tobogganing on rails, fun for the whole family. Please note that in good weather, you should expect waiting times.

Silbertal Silver Trail: Exciting themed trail about old legends and stories of the Montafon.

Rätikonbad in Vandans: Swimming pool and climbing wall, multi-purpose pool with double wave slide and relaxation pool.

Alpenbad Montafon in Aktivpark: Outdoor pool with natural pond, great slides, and unobstructed views of the mountains, perfect for families.

Mountain Beach in Gaschurn: swimming lake with alpine flair, ideal for swimming and relaxing.

VAL BLU leisure center in Bludenz: adventure pool with slides and outdoor area as well as a beautiful sauna landscape.

4. Mountain climbing

Piz Buin (3,312 m): The highest mountain in Vorarlberg, ideal for experienced mountaineers. Guided tours with mountain guides (glacier crossing).

Sulzfluh: Border mountain between Austria and Switzerland, with fantastic panoramic views. Accessible via the Tilisuna Hut.

Schafbergspitze (2,409 m): A popular mountain tour with a rewarding view from the summit on a plateau (also open in winter).

Three Towers: Challenging tour for experienced mountaineers.

Zamangspitze: The trail offers a magnificent panorama of 226 peaks in the Vorarlberg, Tyrol, and Swiss mountains.

6. Golf

Montafon Golf Club in Tschagguns: 9-hole golf course surrounded by breathtaking Alpine scenery with natural fairways.

Silvretta Golf Club in Partenen: A challenging 9-hole course at an altitude of 1,100 meters.

Brand Golf Club: Alpine 18-hole course in the Brandnertal valley.

7. Mountain biking

Panorama Trail: A flowing trail with magnificent panoramic views. A route with few technical sections but lots of fun.

Hochjoch Freeride Trail (“Alpine Trails”): A challenging freeride trail that takes you from Kapellalpe towards the valley. The starting point is the Hochjochbahn mountain station.

Bikepark Brandnertal: Perfect for adrenaline junkies and downhill fans. The park offers trails with varying degrees of difficulty, from easy flow trails to technical downhill trails.
